Hearing Aids & Hearing Rehabilitation
Overview

A device is the start, not the answer

Most hearing aids that end up in a drawer were not badly chosen. They were badly fitted, or nobody explained what to expect in the first few weeks. Hearing through a device takes adjustment, and that adjustment is the part that needs support.

We assess your hearing first, let you trial types of hearing aids at the hearing aid centre, fit them using real-ear measurement, and stay with you through the settling-in period and afterwards.

  • Rehabilitation of hearing impaired patients, including communication strategies
What is involved

From assessment to fitting

Fitting a hearing aid properly takes more than one appointment. The process includes:

  • A full hearing assessment, so the device is set to your hearing
  • A discussion of what you actually need it for
  • Trialling types of hearing aids in real listening conditions
  • Ear impressions where a custom fit is needed
  • Real-ear measurement to verify the fitting
  • A settling-in period with review appointments

FAQs

Hearing Aids & Hearing Rehabilitation questions

Can I try hearing aids before buying?
Yes. At the hearing aid centre you hear devices in real listening conditions and can trial them before deciding. There is no obligation to buy on the day.
What types of hearing aids do you fit?
Types of hearing aids include rechargeable, invisible in-canal, receiver-in-canal, behind-the-ear and Bluetooth-connected models. Which suits you depends on your hearing, your lifestyle and how you want it to look and feel.
How much do hearing aids cost?
Hearing aid prices vary depending on the technology, features and your hearing needs. After your assessment, our audiologist will explain the suitable options and their prices before you decide.
I have a hearing aid that I never wear. Can you help?
Often, yes. Bring it in. Sometimes it is a programming issue, sometimes a fit problem, sometimes nobody explained what the first few weeks would feel like. We can reassess and re-fit rather than start from scratch.
What does hearing rehabilitation involve?
Rehabilitation of hearing impaired patients covers getting used to a device, communication strategies for difficult listening situations, and review appointments as your hearing changes. It is the part that decides whether a hearing aid gets worn.
